About Me
✋ Hey there, I’m Kenny – Welcome to My Type One Path
In December 2022, my life took a sharp, unexpected turn. At 39 years old, I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D).
Was it a shock? Absolutely.
Was I prepared? Not even close.
Did I frantically Google “what are the symptoms of Type 1 Diabetes” at 2 AM? Eventually.
And now? I live with it, I learn from it, and I write about it — right here. This is my journey of navigating the daily realities of blood sugar management, insulin dosing, and CGM alerts.
This blog is my little corner of the internet where I share my personal path with Type 1 Diabetes — the weird moments, the tough days, the things no one told me in the hospital, and the occasional (okay, frequent) sarcastic rant about everything from finicky medical devices to stubborn post-meal glucose spikes.
But let’s rewind a little…
📍 Who Am I, Really?
I’m a 39-year-old flight attendant from Frankfurt, with a love for good food, bad jokes, and honest conversations. Before my diagnosis, I thought health was something you either had or you didn’t. After being diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes, I learned it’s more like a language — and I’m still figuring out the complex grammar of carb counting, insulin-to-carb ratios, and correction factors.
Oh, and I still drink beer — yes, you can drink alcohol with Type 1 Diabetes — and I’m here to share how I survive to tell the tale.
🩺 Why This Blog? My Mission for Type One Path
Because when I was first diagnosed, the information I found felt disconnected from real life. It was either overwhelmingly clinical or overly fluffy and positive. I couldn’t find someone just talking honestly about the day-to-day challenges and mental load of living with T1D.
So, I decided to create the resource I wish I had: a place that talks about Type 1 Diabetes in a human way.
Here, my goal is to share everything I’m learning about:
- Real-Life T1D Management: The good, the bad, and the glucose-spiky stories.
- Practical Tips & Hacks: Actionable advice on everything from traveling with T1D to finding the best bedtime snacks.
- Honest Reviews: My unfiltered thoughts on the tools we use, from CGMs and insulin pumps to a good old-fashioned glucometer.
- Food & Nutrition: How to navigate everything from a low-carb diet to eating out at McDonald’s without losing your mind.
- A Sense of Community: And maybe, just maybe — a reason to laugh in the middle of a sugar crash.
